Self-guided architecture workshop
One hour, one problem and one recorded decision. Work alone or use the outline to lead a team session.
Challenge
Your service receives 20 orders/s and processes two per second. The burst lasts ten seconds. Model backlog, propose recovery and explain when you would reject work instead of queuing it. Deliver an ADR with a rejected alternative and a review condition. Use the demo, queue guide and ADR template; no registration or scheduled event is implied.
30-day editorial plan
October 19–November 17, 2026 · Suggested dates to review and adapt. Each entry has full copy and a channel-tagged link. Choose your audience's language. Copying or checking an entry does not publish or send anything.

Your route
Queue, retries and recovery
Adjust arrivals, workers and failures to observe backlog and dead letters. An educational model inspired by the cases, with no production data.
When should services use a queue?
Separate traffic spikes from processing capacity without hiding operational cost.
Architecture decision template
A fillable ADR with context, alternatives, decision, consequences and a review condition.
What happens when arrivals exceed capacity?
Hypothesis: a queue absorbs a burst but does not fix a permanent processing deficit.
